Who we are

Scripture Union Scotland is a national charity, with around 100 staff and over 2,000 volunteers. Our vision is to see every child and young person of Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus.

Our centres regularly host school groups participating in residential experiences, youth groups enjoying weekend breaks and a variety of SU Holidays. Making the most of the stunning opportunities that Scotland’s countryside affords, we use outdoor activities to build relationships with young people, enabling them to have fun, develop new skills and work together.

We currently have a vacancy for a Cook to be based at our Gowanbank Centre, in Darvel. Gowanbank is a vibrant centre with accommodation for up to 50 guests.

Purpose

Working as part of the Gowanbank team, you will assist the Housekeeper in fulfilling all catering requirements of the Centre including preparation, cooking and baking and service for school groups, weekend groups and various meetings/functions. In addition, the role will include cleaning and maintaining kitchens to a high standard and induction of self-catered groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist with delivering busy catering preparation and service sessions.
  • To support the team with certain aspects of the catering function for catered groups
  • To assist with the preparation of kitchens for self-catering groups.
  • To comply with food safety legislation and internal policies, thereby ensuring high standards of cleanliness and equipment of all kitchens
  • Occasionally assisting other departments, as required

Who we are looking for:

We are seeking applicants who enjoy working alongside others and who are committed to providing a high standard of guest service. Applicants for this post should have experience in catering and be able to work on their own initiative. You will most likely have undergone some catering training, hold food hygiene certification and have worked in the hospitality industry, but this is not essential. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

The successful applicant will be required to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Scheme and the appointment will be subject to a satisfactory PVG Scheme Disclosure.
