I am excited about the year ahead of me. I chose to do a Gap Year with Scripture Union Scotland because, SU has always been an important part of my life. Particularly I have always really enjoyed SU Holidays, which I’ve been going on for my whole life! And so I am really excited about getting to live in an SU Centre for a year and getting to work alongside the amazing team who make it all happen!
I chose to become a Christian on an SU Holiday in 2019. So the idea of sharing my faith with school groups is also very appealing to me, and I’m excited to give other young people in Scotland the same opportunity that I had.
One of the reasons I chose this Gap Year is to take a year getting to know God better and to live in a Christian environment in order to prioritise my relationship with God above other things in my life. I am also excited to do things I haven’t done before and learn new things about myself – hopefully including what I might want to do after university!
In my free time I love being outdoors, particularly doing water sports such as canoeing, sailing, paddleboarding and wild swimming. I also love climbing, although I prefer indoors for this, doing bouldering and roped climbs. As well as this I read a lot of books, with my favourite genres being fantasy and sci-fi.
I have opted for the gap:centre placement where I will be based at one of SU’s Centres. I will be working primarily with the schools’ team, welcoming schools to the centre. I’ll also help with activities and on the catering and house teams as we get the centre ready for each new group that comes in. There will also be training, wider SU events and SU Holidays.
