I am excited about the year ahead of me. I decided to do a gap year with SU Scotland because I am really looking for an opportunity to learn and grow in my faith and come to know more about Jesus whilst also serving and gaining more experience in youth work. The SU gap year seems like the perfect place to do that.
I am really excited about the opportunity to learn from others. During my gap year, one of my main goals is to grow in my confidence in youth work skills particularly in leading and planning youth work and ministry provision. I want to step out of my comfort zone by experiencing new things, meeting new people and taking on new challenges. I also am really looking to grow in my reliance on God. I want to spend more time in prayer and reflection and serve the community whilst growing in my faith and learning more about Jesus and who He is.
I’m also really looking forward to the international mission opportunity as it is something I’ve never done before but something I’m very interested in being a part of!
Most of my spare time is spent volunteering with local youth groups. I have a real passion for working with young people and it truly is my favourite thing to do so I take absolutely every opportunity to get involved in that. I also really love music, and it is one of my favourite ways to spend time with God.
I have chosen to do a gap:local placement with SU Scotland. I will be based in Cambuslang and Rutherglen with the Reachout Trust. My placement will involve going into schools to help at SU groups, assemblies and RE lessons, community groups and working with local Churches and special events for Christmas and Easter. As well as this, there will also be training and study, wider SU events, camps and holiday clubs, and an international mission trip.
