Jackie Ringan
Jackie’s first contact with SU Scotland was in secondary school where her history teacher invited her to an SU Group and then encouraged her to go to Easter camp. At that Easter event, she clearly heard the gospel and made a commitment to follow Christ. Clearly, she was stuck with us, staying involved in holidays throughout student life and leading an SU Group while teaching History and Modern Studies.
Since joining the staff in 1990, she's gone from being a regional worker post in the north-east, a move south to "do something different in Edinburgh", to East Team Leader and Associate Director, finally taking up the new post of Director of Development in October 2014 and adding Holidays to that in 2020. She is passionate about young people having the opportunity to explore and respond to the gospel, grow as disciples and begin to serve. Together, with an amazing team, she oversees our work with volunteers, young leaders, holidays, prayer, church partnerships and our newer work developing ministry with those at the margins.
She lives in Cumbernauld and is involved in serving at St Columba’s Hillhead Church in Kirkintilloch. She enjoys nothing better than getting out on the golf course and trying to reduce her ‘handicap’ at the weekend or on a summer evening, early morning swims, reading lots of books and catching up with friends. Recently, on sabbatical in Australia, she satisfied a long held ambition of holding a koala (they are so soft!). She has had the amazing opportunity to lead teams of young leaders to visit SU ministry in Ukraine many times and keeps attempting (and failing) to learn Russian and Ukrainian.
