Gordon Roy
Hi,
Thanks for stopping off in Stirling and Clackmannanshire to read something of our work in this area. Gordon works in this region alongside his North Team Leader responsibilities within SU Scotland. Caroline Boyers joined the staff in February 2024 to work during the school term in a part-time Schools Ministry role for Clackmannanshire. Both of them support volunteers who lead school groups and Gordon also focuses on residentials and other activities across the region.
Below is a snap shot of what goes on. If you want to get a fuller picture, please register for our termly prayer letter, which you can do on right side of this page.
If time is too limited to volunteer, you can support the region financially on this page too. The more people involved in volunteering and giving - the more we can do!
SCHOOLS WORK
Thanks to volunteers, we are rebuilding SU Group numbers after Covid closed schools to so many volunteers. Senior pupils, school staff, parents, church leaders and other volunteers all have a part in making SU Groups happen. We're looking to start and restart groups across the region: we are looking to God, looking to head teachers for permission and looking to local churches and school for the Christians who can lead these groups. As we bring local Christians together in hubs that reflect the cluster of schools around each secondary school, we hope to make the connections to open doors and build teams in each school.
PRAYER
Prayer will be the difference as we continue to build this work. As well as you signing up for the prayer letter we would would love an invitation to your church prayer meeting to be able to share what is happening.
RESIDENTIAL EVENTS
We hold two residential weekends in the year for young people in this area along with Falkirk and West Lothian. These are at the end of January and the end of May and are promoted on the Weekends page of the SU Holidays website when open for bookings. In 2025 our events are over the weekends 24-26 January and 30th May to 1st June
Gordon is also involved in other events such as Easter at Scoughall, Basecamp Kingscross, Creative Arts Holiday and the Watersports and Mountain Biking Holidays. Information about these events also comes up on the SU Holidays website throughout the year.
WORKING WITH CHURCHES
It's the way that Scripture Union works all around the world: with churches. In our region this includes church groups coming to our weekends, working together to take local schools on Christmas and Easter Journeys, subsidising young people to SU Holidays, seeing their young people trained and inspired on our COmMISSION Programme, running a Holiday Club or Mission with SU Scotland involvement or materials produced by Scripture Union.
