Could you give a young person a holiday that really could transform their life?

Bethany has experienced first-hand how SU Holidays change lives and shares her story below.

Growing up in my teenage years in a socially deprived area, I faced challenges with drinking and struggled to fit in. My family weren’t involved in church, however I had become part of the Scripture Union (SU) club at my school. This became a place where I could truly express myself and experience a sense of community. I loved the art and creativity we shared there, but I particularly wanted to go back and was drawn to the spiritual side of it.

I remember desperately wanting to go to a summer camp organised by SU, but it was simply out of our family’s budget. However, through the holiday sponsorship fund, I was able to attend multiple camps, including one that profoundly changed my life. It was at the age of 16, during one of those camps, that I made the life-changing decision to give my heart to Jesus. The experience was transformative, and I felt a deep sense of belonging and purpose that I had never known before.

It breaks my heart to think that there are so many children and young people in Scotland who face similar financial barriers and aren’t able to afford an SU Holiday. Missing out on an SU Holiday doesn’t simply mean they miss out on a week of fun with friends, it could mean that they miss out on the incredible and life-giving opportunity to discover a God who loves them. Kids that come from the area I grew up in can fall in with the wrong crowd, and get into dangerous habits. But I know Jesus can turn this all around! He did this for me!
