Looking to expand your experience and skillset? We would love for you to join the Gowanbank team for a short-term voluntary placement, with training provided.

Who are we?

Scripture Union Scotland’s vision is to see every child and young person in Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus. We are a national charity, with around 100 staff and over 2,000 volunteers. Our activities take place in schools, outdoor activity centres, and churches.

Gowanbank, one of SU Scotland’s residential centres opened in 2018. Since it opened, we have welcomed over 8,800 visitors to the centre from churches, youth groups, schools, SU groups, SU Holidays and many others for activity weeks, day visits, weekend away and conferences.

What will I be doing?

You would be part of a dynamic team in serving our guests. Within our small staff team, we perform multiple roles across the centre. We will find a role for you at Gowanbank based on your strengths and interests. Maybe you have the gift of hospitality or enjoy cooking. Or maybe you are an aspiring outdoor activities instructor and don’t know where to start. There are various areas – maintenance, activities, house and catering. Tell us what your interests are, and we can help shape your placement and offer you any necessary training (e.g. qualifications for leading outdoor activities).

What about accommodation?

You will be provided accommodation and food for the duration of your placement. Accommodation is a furnished flat in the nearest town in Darvel, a short walking distance from Gowanbank.

Who will I work with?

You will be working with a staff team that are committed to the seeing the vision of SU Scotland fulfilled in our lifetime. This is an amazing opportunity to offer your services to work as part of a vibrant team of Christians, to grow in your faith and make a difference in the lives of children and young people in Scotland.
